a5c7b9f00b Sarah Ashburn, an FBI agent, is extremely ambitious and has her eye on a promotion, but she doesn't get along with her co-workers. She is sent to Boston to uncover the identity of an elusive drug lord, Mr. Larkin, by tracking down his proxy, Rojas, and is told that she'll have a good shot at the promotion if she finds Larkin. When she arrives in Boston, she learns that Larkin has been eliminating his competition and taking over their operations. She learns that Rojas is in Boston PD custody and goes to see him to ask him what he knows about Larkin, but is warned that the cop who arrested Rojas, Shannon Mullins, is very territorial, and she is not exactly sociable. When the two meet they don't get along. When Mullins learns why Ashburn is in Boston, she decides to find Larkin herself. Ashburn is told by her boss to work with Mullins, but it won't be easy because Ashburn does things by the book while Mullins does things her way.

I saw "The Heat", starring Sandra Bullock-The Blind Side, Speed; Melissa McCarthy-Mike & Molly-t.v., Gilmore Girls-t.v.; Marlon Wayans-G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, White Chicks and Jane Curtin-Unforgettable-t.v., SNL-t.v..<br/><br/>This is something that you don't see a lot of, a female buddy cop movie. Sandra plays an uptight F.B.I. agent that does everything by the book. Melissa plays a police detective that is crude and foul-mouthed and she would rather throw a book at a perpetrator. The sparks fly when they team up, neither one of them likes the other one, of course,is usual for a buddy cop movie. Melissa carries the most laughs, mostly because of her mouth, but Sandra has her share, too. Sometimes, during my screening, it was hard to hear some of the dialog because the audience was laughing so much. But be warned, the humor is pretty raunchy, at times. I'm sure that you have seen trailers that give away the best parts of a movie. That is not the case, here, because the trailer could not show some of the funnier parts. Marlon plays a fellow F.B.I. agent that has a crush on Sandra and Jane plays Melissa's mother. It's rated "R" for language and violence and has a running time of 1 hour & 57 minutes. I thought it was funny and I would buy it on DVD.
This is another movie I went with my movie theatre-working friend that I managed to watch for free. Therefore, if I didn't end up enjoying it, I wouldn't think I just wasted money on a ticket. Well, while the plot was pretty formulaic, I did enjoy the interplay between mismatched law partners Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. I didn't think everything was hilarious but enough of it was funny enough that I did end up liking this movie. The supporting cast, which included a Wayans brother and a former (Jane Curtin) and current (Taran Killam) "SNL" cast member, didn't really have a chance to generate laughs but I liked their presence just the same. In summary, I think The Heat is worth a look.
Every foul-mouthed joke [McCarthy] cracks, every unexpected physical gag she underplays, is so funny you forget how often we’ve seen this setup. Or, when it comes to women, how rarely.
The US Blu-ray features two versions of the film. Next to the R-rated theatrical version, we have an unrated cut that doesn't offer a substantially better film. If you liked the theatrical version, you might enjoy some of the plot extension that the longer cut introduces since they add a little humor but they are not necessary to alter the film's overall impression. In total the Unrated Version runs approx. three minutes longer than the Theatrical Version.
